This car was up for bid at an excellent "Buy it now" price. We bought it because of the reviews we found on-line and Toyota's reputation. The highlander is probably a bit bigger than we really needed, but our boys are much more comfortable in the back seat than they were in the Subaru Forester that it replaces. I have no complaints about the car, but the transaction has been onerous. We bought the car on August 11th, but as of Sept 6th we still haven't been able to register it in NY, as we don't have the title. Advice to buyers - if the seller says they have a clear title, find out if they actually have the title IN HAND. If a leinholder has the title - in our case we live in NY, the seller lives in CT and the leinholder was in CA - it will be complicated! Source: eBay Motors Reviews |

I bought a new 2008 hybrid highlander a month ago. I love it! I've seen 29 mpg city and 33 highway. This is wintertime and I had the heat on! I can't wait to see what I can get when it is much warmer. I especially love the EV mode this car has that lets me go under electric only. Don't think you can do it all the time. I see about 4 miles before the battery is drained and you cannot go above 25mph. I wish it could be higher because you could easly go faster. Just don't expect to get everywhere in a hurry if you want the best mpg. If you drive it like a normal car you should get what is advertised. I do think the hitch should come with the car standard. Oh, and get the Toyota hitch, not the aftermarket ones. The toyota one comes with a trim piece for the bumper to finish things off nicely. Toyota should have put HID headlights on this or at least had an option for them but the halogen lights are plenty bright. The ride is so smooth and peaceful. I love the CVT transmission. Fit and finish is really good. The dash is hard but looks as soft as my BMW dash. I do not miss my 2004 BMW 330i but I new I would be happy with this because my wife has a Prius and I love that car almost as much. Someone needs to come up with a way to charge the battery at home. I can make sure I have a low batter everytime I get home with the EV mode. I should be able to plug it in rather than make the engine do it. There isn't much lost in the morning because the engine comes on until it reaches normal temperature anyway. My only serious complaint. When the batteries are cold and you go down a huge hill trying to regenerate it won't be long before it feels like the brakes give out unless you hit the brakes more to activate the hydraulic mechanical brakes. This does not happen when the battery is warm. when warm the brakes feel very linear, just like a regular car. I could see this issue getting someone in trouble if they have a habit of tailgating.
