We first drove the 2005 model Avalon on a road trip to Portland, Oregon in the Summer of 2006. We were so impressed with its quietness, power, style, and interior space, we purchased the 2006 model XLS with navigation in April 2007.
Literally, this is a dream to drive no matter what the trip length. You feel pampered without feeling ostentatious. I will address each of it qualities:
Quietness - I am very sensitive to noise, so imagine my relief when I upgraded from a Corolla to the Avalon. In all honesty, a Lexus is a bit quieter. But that is why you pay the premium.
Power - This car gives you anything you ask of it. Hills are absolutely no issue. It's midrange is stellar. It inspires confidence when you want to move into another lane or an open spot. Amazingly, the EPA gas mileage is accurate. 24 mpg in the city and rush hour traffic and 31 on the road.
Style - Toyota appears to have taken its styling cues from the BMW 750 series and Mercedes Benz CL series. Its style, light metallic blue, off-white leather interior, and honey colored wood trim leads many to comment on its overall beauty. It is almost a feng shui kind of thing.
Interior Space - In the front, you will be impressed with the elbow room. You have to purposefully wing out your elbows to touch the doors. Now the back seat is most notable. The back seat has got to have at least an extra six to eight inches of floor space that lets all but the very tallest stretch out. Even they will most impressed with the leg room. The rear seats recline about 10 degrees which gives a most comfortable ride. Another perspective; I was able to fit a large home theater box in the rear seat with very little effort. The DVD navigation system is just plain fun. The sound system is great.
I keep my vehicles for about six to eight years. This I will stick with the full course. I recommend the 2006 Avalon XLS without reservation. Source: eBay Motors Reviews |
2000 Toyota Avalon: The best value When I bought my Avalon new in early 2001, I sold my 1987 Camry with 240,000 miles on it, having had no problems with it. Just standard maintenance. My 2000 Avalon is just as reliable.
I believe the Avalon is a Lexus-Quality car at a Toyota price. It looks great and performs very well. It has more back seat room than any car I've been in (This was a major selling point for me). It drives very smoothly, yet maintains just the right amount of road-feel.
It's V6 engine provides all the power you might want in a luxury sedan and still gets 17/25 mpg after 6 years and 75,000 miles. The interior and exterior trim continues to stay firmly attached and look like new, as does the paint with the exception of a couple of small door dings that are inevitable with any car in Los Angeles. The leather seats are extremely comfortable in a variety of weather conditions (but I have never had it in < 30 degrees fahrenheit). The drivers seat shows slight signs of wear, but has held up better than I could have hoped, especially with my fidgity butt.
The climate controls and sound system are flawless (Although I recently upgraded the stereo to one that includes a bluetooth phone/mp3 capability).
After years of service the Avalon looks, drives, and fels like it is new. It is 100% reliable like most Toyota products. I can't recommend an Avalon more highly. Although I can certainly afford a new Lexus, I am still very happy with my Avalon and will almost certainly buy another one when the time comes to get a new car. Source: eBay Motors Reviews |

This is my second vehicle purchased on Ebay and in both cases I've been satisfied with the end result. Even though you take some chances buying a vehicle sight unseen, the feedback ratings and the type of vehicle mitigate some of the risk. Toyota has earned a certain reputation over the years, and I did all the basics - only buy from someone who has earned many positive reviews, do a carfax, etc. Relative to similar cars at my local dealers I saved in the area of $4,000 - $5,000. The spread between what these car dealers pay and what they sell their inventory for is huge. You could almost drive a big rig sideways through the spread, but I think that will narrow a bit if more of us buy through EBAY. Hope this helps. Source: eBay Motors Reviews |
