1992 Subaru SVX: nice care dudes These are excellent cars to own. They aren't like any other car out here on the steet. Everytime I ride down the street people are wondering what I'm driving. With the 4 wheel drive the car handles like a gem in the rain and snow. These cars have almost like a cult following too. Any information you want to know about these cars or any questions you may have can be answered for you. You wont go wrong with this choice in vehicle. Source: eBay Motors Reviews |

SVX's are a love-hate stituation like no other. You absolutly love their striking good looks and their AWD performance and their ahead of their time engineering and features. Subaru failed to make sure that a couple of the primary parts were up to their normally high standards. The four speed electronic controled transmission is way too weak for the job because of the reported high rate of early failure. Subaru has always built small light cars and the SVX was a lot heavier than anything they had attempted before and even though the H6 engine is magnificent (when it doesn't leak oil from one of the front seals like the oil pump seal) they did not take into account the extra power acting upon the extra weight. I will be rebuilding the auto trans in my car and adding an additional transmission oil cooler to help keep the trans alive longer. The other weak part is the rear wheel bearings which the car eats for lunch every 30,000 miles I am told and mine needs a new set now. The car handles great and that is part of the joy of driving it so the occational spirited cornering must be more than those bearings can deal with. Other than those items, the car is definatly in the amazing catagory. The HVAC system is most excellent and the steering is above average of what one would expect in this type of Touring/Sports car. Visability is second to none and the seats are very comfortable in thier multi position adjustments for long stints on the highway. The performance in snow and ice is the best I've every experienced and that is so important when you live in snow country like I do. The one thing that Subaru just plain forgot about is cup holders. There are none. Just exactly how are we Americans supposed to stay hydrated in such an exciting fun to drive car without cup holders? The booring basic cars all have them. Why not on a fully loaded luxury touring car? If you are into underrated unique sporting cars that can steal you heart and keep on delivering that excitment real drivers crave year after year the SVX is at the top of my list for sure. If you are experienced mechanicly, the SVX will be giving you some more experience when it comes to transmissions and rear wheel bearings. But once squared away this car will return satisfaction in spades. The EPA was right on with this car at 17/25 mpg and that you can count on. One more note. When I researched owners opinions on MSN Auto I have never seen so much praise of any car ever desite the occational mention of the 2 mechanical week points. That almost universal love for this car is unusual especially considering it's few but serious shortcomings. It's a real indication that the SVX is not just another pretty face. It's got soul.
