Some people cannot STAND the new Cayman and Cayman S, introduced a copule of years ago.
Anything that causes controversy among Porsche enthusiasts MUST be good for the marque. If so, then the Cayman is absolutely the greatest thing that Porsche has done for their product line since the 914-6. Cayenne sales top the Leader Board, I know; but who really wants to drive an SUV in the land of $5/gal gasoline?
While the Cayman S has the additional horsepower and torque that Porsche drivers expect, the Cayman is ideal for those who aspire to +30MPG while tooling around in an "affordable" German supercar that does everything well.
With stock 17" wheels and tires, the highway ride is absolutely fantastic. This is a sophisticated sports car. The buckboard ride is long gone. But the sports car handling is still on tap.
Even with the base 2.7-liter 6 cylinder, a downshift to 3rd will take you from 55 to +100 MPH in very short order.
This vehicle is 100% Porsche. Engineering, design, and quality construction are self-evident.
Crowds gather when you (occasionally) pull into a petrol station for refueling or parking area of the grocery or mall (way out on the perimeter, free of potential door dings).
This is the fastest, sexiest grocery-getter you will ever pilot. The generous front and rear cargo areas will swallow up three grocery carts full of viddles, or a month's worth of wardrobe for those long road trips.
Long road trips will be your FAVORITE way to spend quality time with this little beauty. I'm averaging 2,000 miles/month for the last +12 months!
OPTIONS TO BUY: Heated power sport seats. Bose stereo. Cruise control.
OPTIONAL OPTIONS: Everything else.
You can hop into one of these, nicely equipped, for as little as $51K. Load it up, including the bigger engine, and you can easily push $100K, out the door.
Funny thing is: they both look about the same parked at the curb. They both FEEL the same at highway speeds. 'So where's the beef?
Admittedly, when the bigger HP and FT LBS at work, this thing screams. Hence the 4/5 rating on performance (acceleration). 'But HEY, I'm getting 31MPG.
'And looking good doing it.
