I was looking for an inexpensive car to get me to school and work. I had good experience with past Chrysler cars with the 2.5L 4cyl engine and 3-speed automatic, so I decided to buy a 1990 Plymouth Sundance for sale on Ebay. It supposedly was a 1 owner car with 20k original miles and the owner had died. Judging by the pics it looked to be true. Shiny red paint and a spotless interior. I ran an "AutoCheck" to verify, but after paying to view the report there was nothing reported! What a scam! Once I received the car I realized I had been duped though. The car had obviously been repainted because there were runs in the paint and areas where the paint was thin and rough. The engine had a massive oil leak that the seller never disclosed. The tape player ate the first tape I inserted. The car did run and drive very well, but there was a minor issue with the brakes that, again, the seller didn't disclose. After noticing all the suspicious aspects of the car, I decided to run a Carfax report (since AutoCheck was absolutely no help!) and discovered that the car actually had over 80k miles on it and the odometer had been rolled back. I was furious that the seller had totally taken advantage of me.

I really liked the car though. It was very comfortable for a small car and cruised nicely on the highway. Fuel economy was good for having such a large 4cyl, roughly 33-35mpg on the highway. I didn't really have any problems with the car to speak of. It always started right up and ran beautifully. I didn't have to put any money into repairs. I absolutely loved the hatchback design. It looked like a sedan, but was actually a hatchback in disguise. I was able to fit my bicycle in the trunk with the backseat folded. Loved that about the car. The backseat was incredible cramped for anyone but children, and every uncomfortable at that because of the low seating position and very limited leg room. Not a good car for someone wanting to carry adults in the back. The car lacked power big time. No take-off power whatsoever, but it was very strong out on the highway. Not too noisy for a small car either. The brakes were terrible. The pedal was very mushy and the brakes were too weak. Just the nature of these older Chryslers I've noticed. The steering was responsive and the handling was very good. I didn't have the car long because I was involved in an accident and the car was totaled. I was very sad. I really liked the car. The Plymouth Sundance is very dependable, well-built, a inexpensive in terms of maintenance and repairs. A good value.
