If you're just looking for a nice all around car for a daily driver the Eclipse would definitely be a good car to glance at.
It's sporty looks are not quite matched with it's performance. The V6 puts down around 170 - 180 horse to the ground. Don't let the 200 (or 210 for the GTS) fool you! It's ok, not great, just ok.
The 4 cylinder models RS and GS received much more after market support than the V6 did. So, if you are adamant about purchasing a Third Generation Eclipse for tuning do yourself the favor and go with the 4 cylinder models.
There are plenty of turbo kits out there for the RS and GS. The V6 should only be tackled by someone who really wants a challenge. Along with that challenge they will run into countless service engine lights, idling problems, sensor malfunctions, etc...
You've been warned! If you want a car to tune and your options are open GO ELSEWHERE! If you're just looking to have an all around decent performing car that looks nice then the Eclipse will be alright!

Oh and by the way if you do decide to purchase a V6 model for tuning DO NOT BUY ANY DOUG'S DYNO POWER KITS! They have been proven to fail by a multitude of people. STEER CLEAR OF DDP! Source: eBay Motors Reviews |

It was a horrible experience and shows why kids shouldnt be able to use ebay. I got there and their was a ton of body work and paint that looked horrible. Then upon driving what he called a 15k upgrade and 300hp the engine had a knock to it and was slow Source: eBay Motors Reviews |

I was really surprised that I was the winning bidder on this car, it has a book value of about $8K, it is the loaded version of the Spyder, GT. It is loaded with everything you can get on that model. Cute little red convertible, I looked it up on Edmunds and it sold new for $27K. The owner descirbed it accurately, the inside was perfect, leather interior with no tears, looks like a new top and everything works as new. Excellent experience, will look on EBAY for my next purchase. Source: eBay Motors Reviews |
