The car is fun to drive and performs well but there are several electrical issues that are VERY expensive to get diagnosed and repaired. The Consumer Reports ratings of Mercedes for the last 7 years are accurate when they rate the cars at the bottom of reliability. The quality control for a car this expensive is abysmal and the reliability of the systems is atrocious. While the car is a pleasure to drive, it is a very expensive one to maintain and fix. Mercedes needs to stand behind the product however after the warranty runs out they just wring their hands with glee at the dealerships looking forward to the repair revenue they will get. There were 51 pages of service records for this car at the dealership for the first 78,000 miles which I couldn't get until I bought the car. There were well over 20 repairs when under warranty. In the first 3 weeks since purchasing the car I have spent over $2000 on fixes and I am not done yet and that was at an independent shop which charges $95 an hour. The Mercedes dealership charges $140 per hour.
I bought the car because I wanted a convertible with a removable hardtop and for the performance charastics. One has to do as much research as possible before purchasing. In this case the dealership wouldn't show me the maintenance records before I bought the car and only after when I gave them a signed request from the former owner. They claimed they has some sort of liability if they showed me them before I bought the car. In the end they only gave me the records when I complained to Mercedes USA headquarters.
These cars are very sophisticated and highly engineered and a delight to drive. Too bad Mercedes can get their quality control up to even average standards. If one wants to by a used recent years Mercedes it is very important to get the records prior to purchasing so an informed decision on purchasing a specific car can be made.

I have always admired the Mercedes SL roadsters, but the current generation is one of the most beautiful cars ever built. I've owned my 2006 SL500 for three years now, and every time I drive the car, I learn more about the myriad of innovations built into this mechanical wonder. The SL is exciting to drive, with excellent acceleration, road hugging, level cornering, unsurpassed and intuitive braking, seven speed transmission with manual shift capability and much, much more. With the aluminum hardtop closed, the Bose sound system is absolutely the best sound system I have heard in my life, anywhere. With the hardtop folded down, the system has the power to overcome any intruding traffic noises, and still sound wonderful. The SL is void of wind noise and absolutely dry when closed up. The owner documentation includes hundreds of pages of interesting and captivating knowledge about the engineering genius at your control. When this car is on the road, or in a parking lot, it turns heads. People really notice its presence, no matter what else is around. Pride of ownership is too great for words.

To any and all who might want to bid on any items that this fellow has should do so without any problems. He was very easy to deal with and had all paper work up front and ready for us when we arrived to pick up the benz. The only problem with the car was with me as I am much taller than my wife (she is 5'4" and I am 6'5") and that is the only issue that I had with the car and it is why I gave it a 4 out of 5 for Comfort. It was an easy transaction and gave us all the info on the "quirks" that this wonderful car had and they were few. We love the car so much that we wish we could purchase another from him as it was exactly as described by Bruce. Bid with confidence from this seller!!!!!
