1995 Mercedes-Benz S-Class: 1995 Mercedes Benz S class in 1995 the S class was available with 4 different engines and 2 body styles, the sedan and the coupe. This was the best that Mercedes had to offer, introduced in the US market in 1992 and remained for sale until 1999. The S320 had a 6 cylinder engine that was economical, the S420 and S500 had a strong V8 engines, the top of the line S600 with the V12 and the diesel S350. Mercedes spent years before they introduced this beautiful body style, some key features and major changes from previous models: power close assist for doors and trunk closure, double side glass for noise and temperature isolation, power folding outside mirrors, power adjustable inside mirror, available built in phone, power headrests, digital odometer, keyless entry, etc... This car was built to last, to perform, and to impress... Watch out for oil leaks that are very expensive to fix, make sure you ask for service records (stay away from a benz that was maintained by a jiffy lube, a gas station, etc...) make sure you check the suspension (could get very pricy to fix) make sure all power accesories are in good working order... I was very excited to be able to purchase a 2001 Mercedes S430 for less than $20,000 which retailed for over $85,000 when new. I had the vehicle inspected by my mechanic who pointed out a few issues including uneven wear of the tires. The previous owner changed the wheels to 20 inch chrome Lowenhart and high performance tires of differing sizes front(255/35/20)and rear (275/30/20). Future buyers need to know that aftermarket chrome wheels often leak air and owners need to be vigilant about checking tire pressure. I had this problem which combined with the uneven wear led to 2 blow outs in the first month. I recommend getting a car with original equipment tires and wheels which should minimize this potential. I resoled the issue by buying 4 OE tires and wheels that are all the same size and can be rotated to maximize life. Additionally, I had a problem with the car stalling after purchase. Only after an extensive search did my mechanic find that a bottle of water had been spilled in the back seat causing electrical irregularities in the computer unit under the seat. Future purchasers should do their best to check out electrical systems for water damage which is not covered in by VPP. I would recommend buying vehicles with extended warranties as repairs on cars that were originally high priced are very expensive, and the great deal you got may not be so great. I bought car based on condition, of body and interior, which was excellent, but I should of taken more care about the mechanial aspect, after spending 8,000.00 on bringing the car to where it should be, now I am faced with putting a transmisson in which will be 3,000.00 thats the risk you take buying used and not getting it inspected, so buyer beware, when you buy used.
