2002 Jeep Liberty: Liberty is a small but capable Jeep

We drove a Liberty from Dallas to Ohio last week. The car had just over 30,000 miles, and was in beautiful condition. It is NOT our car, we were delivering it for another party. It had a V-6 engine, automatic transmission, and most of the amenities you'd expect in an SUV these days. The steering was solid, the shifts positive, and the engine very responsive. We liked the sound of the car, too. The cruise control held speed within +- 1 MPH the whole trip, verified by our GPS system. That beats most every car we've driven! Only squawk on the cruise control is that it has five steering-wheel buttons to operate it, where rheww would work the same, AND you don't get a fixed increase or decrease of 1 MPH when you hit Accel/Coast buttons respectively. (This is the standard set by GM). The tilt wheel didn't tilt much, and our 200+ frame didn't sit well in the leather seat, which always felt like we were on an overstuffed slippery cushion. Liked the settings on the front windshield wiper switch, but the back ones were a bit vague. We got right around 20 MPG doing 74 MPH on the expressway for 900 miles, that's not bad for an engine with this much oomph!
In all, this was a whole lot better car than we expected from Jeep (no insult intended). The car was tight, rode as expected for this wheelbase, and got us there with no surprises. As a used car, this one would be a "buy" if you wanted this class and category. Source: eBay Motors Reviews |
2003 Jeep Liberty: Love My Liberty! I've owned my Liberty Freedom Edition for 3 1/2 years and it has converted me into a Jeep lover! Knock on wood - I've not had one mechanical problem. The size is perfect, not too big and definitely not too small. I love the way the back window comes up and rear door swings open, leaving easy access for loading and unloading. I cart a Great Dane around who comfortably climbs in for the rides of his life. For an SUV, I get excellent gas mileage - usually well over 20 mpg. This is my first 4x4, and that is perhaps my favorite feature (other than the looks). I turn on the part time 4x4 each time it rains or there is snow and I'm good to go. I have a fairly long driveway that no one would plow after a HUGE snow storm. My Liberty plowed me through over 2 feet of snow with no problem. Who needs to pay a plow man when I've got a Liberty now?
The only drawbacks I've experienced are minor. One is whenever I hit a decent size puddle, there's something in the design that throws the water right into the windshield causing a moment of total blindness. The other is when I'm in 4x4, it is difficult to make tight turns in and out of parking spaces. This being my first 4x4, maybe that's just normal.
One other VERY minor inconvenience is the rear cupholders. If you have kids, know the cupholders are in the door. Not a good place because each time they set a drink there and slam the door, the drink splatters all over if it doesn't have a good lid.
I'll hang onto this Liberty as long as I can and when it's day finally comes I will definitely buy another great Jeep! Source: eBay Motors Reviews |

The Jeep Liberty that I bought for my friend wasn't as expected. the guy listed the vehicle as a renegade, or leather. I believe this person shouldn't be selling if his description mislead people to by his cars or other things. Source: eBay Motors Reviews |
