2004 Honda Pilot: Honda Pilot - Its definitely not a MiniVan
02/05/07 (updated 09/17/07)
After accepting that we needed to buy a "family" car we looked at quite a number of MiniVans, SUVs and even a station wagon. As soon as we saw the Honda Pilot, all the rest fell to the side. The sleek lines of the 2004 Honda Pilot, plentiful headroom and power leave you with the sense that you are driving a sporty vehicle rather than a family car. Every other pilot owner I have encountered has had the same strong sense of satisfaction with their vehicle that I have. I will probably replace the second family vehicle with another pilot someday. Like: 8 seats, fold down back two rows, 4wd, ride, turning radius, styling, very comfortable on long trips, plenty of getup and go, easy to get in and out of, rear climate control, great on ice and snow, climbs well in mountains.
Dislike: magnification of rear view mirror, road noise, tire pressure sensor has to be reset at dealer each time, no MP3/Ipod hookup, gas milage stinks (17-19) because of full-time 4wd.
Overview: excellent buy, very versitile, loads of room, very practical. Minimal negatives. Source: eBay Motors Reviews |

Honda Pilots are a great alternative to a minivan. 4WD availability, just as much room as a van, same engine as an oddessy, same available features as one.
I choose mine because of the color, interior, and 4WD. the color had to be red (Redrock Pearl). the interior has 3rd row seating, and it was the EX-L package (needed the tan leather). the 4WD is necessary in the wintertime. I wish I could have found all of these in a car along with the reat entertainment system. The RES it was not a deal breaker. the NAVI is also not necessary for the added cost.
I trust my Pilot to take me anywhere. these are highly dependable vehicles. I get 23-24mpg while doing 75-80 on the highway.
Downsides: 3rd row seating for 12year olds and younger- not a lot of room. Like all Hondas, these have limited color and interior choices. the driving position is different from a car and other vehicles I have owned. it is also dangerously close to being too small for tall people. the cruise control button is in a very strange place.
even with the downsides, I would buy another Pilot in a heartbeat. Source: eBay Motors Reviews |
