2002 Ford Windstar: 2002 Windstar Cargo Van Van works really well in terms of what it is supposed to do - carry "stuff". Drives smooth. Transmission changes smoothly. Engine is good. Space is plenty. Chairs/radio creature comforts are good.
Downside... we have had a bit of electrical problems with ours. The A/C stayed on all the time and seized up the motor (and killed a battery). When the motor seized, the belt broke and I was off to the side of the road. Got it fixed, but the mechanic couldn't pinpoint the reason for the a/c staying on, so we needed to pull the fuse (cost $1000 for the repair and in the end - no A/C). Driver's window is worn out. Switch went bad and motor is not in good condition either. Seat belt broke - so can't get connect the buckle and the alarm goes off. Got that fixed now though. Sometimes it is hard to start - seems the neutral switch is wearing out.
My van has 150k miles. the above problems are not too terrible, but annoying. Am looking to sell it and buy another though. One with fewer problems and fewer miles. Source: eBay Motors Reviews |

I purchased a 1999 Ford Windstar Mini-van off Ebay Motors in February of 2007. The user I purchased it from calls himself "Honest Ben," which is laughable to say the least. It was described as being in excellent mechanical condition with excellent interior ("no smoke smell"), and good exterior with only a few scratches and dings. My first surprise came as soon as I climbed into the van to discover an empty pack of USA Gold cigarettes lying on the front seat. Shocking, since the van was sold as smoke-free. My reaction was "Oh well" because I still felt like the price was great and the interior and exterior were both good. I noticed right away that it felt like the van was running rough, but since I'd never owned a van before I once again brushed off my instincts. Three days later I took the van to my regular mechanic to have the oil changed and to have the car inspected for any major problems before I left feedback. My mechanic informed me that both the cabin air filter and the other air filter were filthy and probably had never been changed in the life of the van. Additionally, the van needed a transmission fluid exchange "within the next 1,000 miles." I made an appointment to return the next day for the extra work since I was on my lunch break, but when I started the van up after work that night the "check engine" light came on. I'm sure most of you can imagine the sick feeling I got in my stomach at that point, so I tried to say calm and contacted the seller. He informed me that it was probably nothing serious and not to worry. He said I could call him if it was serious. He said that it would be unreasonable for me to expect him to pay for the air filters and the trani flush ($120) because "that's just normal maintenence on a used car." When I took the van back to my mechanic and had it put on a diagnostic, he discovered that there was a serious problem with the motor which would cost $1400 to repair. Once again I called "Honest" Ben and in desperation pleaded with him to absorb some of the costs of the repairs. He was initially unwilling so when I mentioned a lawsuit he replied "Don't try that with me. I've been sued before and I'm way ahead of you." He also accused my trusted mechanic of over 5 years of trying to scam me. My mechanic let me take pictures and video of the dismantled motor which was covered in black CO2 residue. He explained the residue was a sure sign that the problem had existed for awhile. He also told me that anyone with a knowledge of cars would have known there was a problem by the way the van was running. He even offered to testify on my behalf if there was a lawsuit so something tells me he wasn't the dishonest one. Eventually, (literally after I broke down crying and begged) Ben agreed to pay $600 towards the repair bill of over $1500 after tax...but only if I would leave him positive feedback so that he could victimize more helpless ebayers with his scams. Besides the mechanical problems here is a list of the rest of the things I found wrong with the van that were not included in the listing: 1. Driver side slider door jammed shut so that you have to be Hulk Hogan to force it open. 2. The key would not fit in the rear door keyhole. You have to open a front door and use the power locks to unlock the rear door and then open it. 3. The car was dangerously out of allignment and shook violently over 60 mph. 4. Driver side locks not controlled by power lock button. My advice: Seller w/ 100% feedbck Source: eBay Motors Reviews |
