I purchased the 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan SE (with the 3.3L V-6) and have it was originally used by my wife. The 'van' has made a long distance trip to Florida (1400 miles) with a wife and two children. The vehicle made the trip with no problem (Summer of 2005) and the air condition (front and rear) worked really well. One of the main features of the vehicle is the 'split' front air conditioning. I usually like to be freezing cold, while my wife likes a little bit of heat. The dual-zone climate control offers that wonderful compromise for us.
I had the transmission oil changed and the vehicle started shifting really hard (up and down). After several attempts to fix it, I was told that the transmission's computer had to be reprogrammed due to the viscosity of the transmission fluid had changed. It fixed the problem, but it truly was an interesting situation.
At 57,000 miles, I had to replace the two gas struts (lift supports) on the tail gate. I found an after market company and purchased them for $25.00 each and performed the repair in about an hour.
Overall, the vehicle is dependable. I wish the engine had more power and spunk, but it's a mid-size V-6 that is also decent on gas. It normally gets between 22 and 24 mpg during the daily commute. Around town, it averages 14 to 16 mpg.
The set up of the van is two front seats, two center seats and one bench seat in the back. So, it can carry 7 passengers very comfortably. Had I waited another year, I would have been able to get the 'stow-n-go' seats. I don't find it much of a bother to remove the seats, but they can be heavy depending on the owner's strength. It is a very good vehicle for the price, It did cost us about $600.00 to repair but we did buy it as is thinking it would need fixing. My wife fell in love with it. Our overall experience buying and selling on e-bay has been very good. Source: eBay Motors Reviews |
