I owned a 2003 SSR and sold it to buy my current 2005. The only major difference in these vehicle years is the motor size (5.3 vs. 6.0) but in hind sight the difference in cost was not really worth a few HP. Both of mine have been trouble free. They are a niche vehicle and not everyone will enjoy the retro styling mixed with a convertible truck.
If you get the concept though you will be very happy. I used to be a Corvette fan and owned 4 over the years, this vehicle has nearly the same power but has a style all it's own and is MUCH easier to get in and out of. I love the one button retractable top, much easier than having to stop, remove bolts and stow the top on Corvettes. It is a VERY heavy vehicle, around 5000 lbs on the scale at the local drag strip. I have a friend with a full size Dodge Quad Cab Ram Daytona that is lighter, no problem though, I still took him in the 1/4 mile with room to spare ;) I've taken it on a few trips and the ride is good, it's not a cross country cruiser for most people but it does fine with well supported leather seating with heat and air lumbar support.
I don't think it sold well because it was over priced when new and GM didn't really market it well. I only remember seeing one ad on TV and it was the one mixed with other GM vehicles and did the U-turn and backed up onto the car carrier. You saw it a few times at the NASCAR events but little was said about it there as well. No longer in production, you can save about 20,000 dollars over new cost for one with little mileage and like new. They should hold value for quite some time. I sold my 2003 for the same price I see them going for today, over a year later. Source: eBay Motors Reviews |

I have been looking for the right SSR for well over a year. I decided on the SSR based on its customized look of a 1950's Chevrolet pickup with the shear power of a sports car. I wanted the larger engine so it had to be the 2005 or 2006 model and I also figured most of the problems that the earlier models suffered from would be remedied by the 3rd or 4th year of production.
This vehicle looks like no other vehicle on the road. I receive thumbs up no matter where I travel. Some people have no idea what it is and say "These were produced? I thought it was a custom job". I love the color(Slingshot Yellow), the looks, the power, and most of all I love the retractable hardtop --- a convertible in a matter of seconds. This is my weekend baby, no rain or fog for my SSR.
I find it comfortable to drive and am very pleased with my miles per gallon -- received 19.7 mpg on a trip which is excellent for 390HP.
I was fortunate to finally find the SSR I was looking for. A 2005, loaded, one owner, with 3800 miles, in like new condition, and the best part was the price --- high blue book. The only downside is the lack of a spare tire but someone is working on an under-the-bed spare tire so that to will no longer be a problem.
So do your homework, look around, and don't hesitate to purchase one. You will have no regrets!! Source: eBay Motors Reviews |

I thought about buying one the month they came out in 2004. Considering it is strictly a "fun" car I couldn't see the $47,000 price tag. This year I purchased one for nearly half that in showroom condition and it's a huge amount of bang for the buck. They should have installed 'run-flat tires' on any car which doesn't't have a spare. It has the smaller engine and I don't agree with any critics who said it's too little horsepower...you can only burn so much rubber. Contrary to what I expected it is a great car on the highway for a long trip. It's not a sports car, a truck, a car....a little bit of all three. Source: eBay Motors Reviews |
